Tuesday May 3rd - still kicking

Well today was a much  better day than the past few for sure. I took Deb to the hospital for treatments as well as a clinical visit and blood work. Great news! Blood is fine, excellent hemoglobin so no need for transfusions this week and perhaps never again.
Electrolytes are all wonky, thanks to chemo residuals, low hydration on Deb's part and the acute side affects of gross radiation. Immodium is our friend is the current mantra. "Keep whatever it is, in as long as you can."
The radiology oncologist, Deb's primary specialist was very pleased today as he outlined her progress. The  tumor is reducing, the treatments are all working and the awful side affects may subside in a couple of weeks. All good news in a relative sort of way.
I found Deb very weak and frail today with collar  bones accentuated and just no vim at all. As you well know this is so unlike our Deb. Today Deb actually had cancer in my mind,  but still and all she had rosy cheeks and a quick smile.
As Christopher says quite often, "bring it on Cancer" a sort of herald that he has adopted to beat this awful thing.
Tonight we celebrated the good news with an all time favourite, A&W Mamma with onion rings and a diet (of course) root beer. Can you just imagine that? The Beattie Beanery reduced to take out junk food, oh well,  whatever works. As Deb says, it all goes through anyway, be it apple sauce, yogurt or pudding, makes not never mind, so might as well enjoy it at one point anyway.
The kids are remarkably resilient, and seem to take this terribly odd tragedy in stride. Christopher is home with Mom lots so looks after her and Lizz is very sweet too when she is here helping out when she can.
I am doing fine albeit one of my busier seasons, spring and all! We are so close to the end of it all. The Doc says that event the acute side affects will subside after the final treatment on Thursday... that is only 2 more... yeah! After that, there are 3 internals (which Deb says are not that bad at all) and five spot treatments. These are very very localized and the side affects are minimal as it the cancerous cells that are irradiated.
All in all, there is a faint light at the end of this dark ole tunnel. We are making remarkable progress. Was that not ever so with our Deb?
Take care and be sure to hug someone you love today, it means a great deal.
