| Deb with Auntie Doris |
Usually, the radiation treatments are scheduled to coincide nicely with other appointments Deb has at Cancer Care, but not today. Lizz brought her home after the requisite shopping spree, actually I am confident that this one was necessary! (right) . Later in the afternoon Deb had to head back to the hospital for her treatment and a chat with the radiology team.
The team explained to Deb what is coming next with the internal component of her treatment. There are to be four treatments one week apart, so it looks like our May is filling up. These procedures are invasive and require anaesthetic, catheterizing the works. What appears to be a medieval torture tool is used to direct the radiation to very specific areas of her body, and of course the tumor itself. This procedure is also dependant on the progress to date, and how much the tumor has reduced.
We received the next week's scheduling for radiation balanced around the holiday schedules at the hospital. Good Friday being the first holiday, blood work is bumped as is chemo typically on Monday.
So all in all the day was pretty extensive and tiring for Deb, so she napped a bit before our friend Karen came over to celebrate her birthday. Lizz made a cake for us, whipped the cream and cut the strawberries; Chris' mom sent dinner over with all the trimmings so we just had to eat and enjoy. Boy was that a nice thing to do, as I am pretty bagged on Fridays and we usually order in or have something easy to make.
The evening was lovely with Chris & Lizz spending some time with us as well as Jimmy, one of Lizz's social work kids.
The evening was not a late one for sure, as we had been out the night before, I was up working at 05:30 and Karen is a recent cancer survivor and needs her sleep as well.
Saturday we are invited to a "cultural event of the decade" as it was stated in the invitation. One of the supervisors at work got married a few months back, and he and his partner are celebrating with their friends and family on Saturday evening at the Conservatory. Not too sure that Deb will make it, but I do have to make an appearance and it is a good chance to see a lot of people in one fell swoop.
We are expecting and getting snow, so a good time to turn in and see what Saturday will bring.
Thanks for all you cards and letters, the e-mails and good wishes go a long way to aid Deb's recovery. She really is a trooper and doing remarkably well. I have not booked our flights for Holland yet, as I am still waiting for the ever so unlikely "deal". It is so good to have a goal like our cruise June 14th to look forward to, it will help Deb with her healing for sure. Even if she is not as strong as she would like to be, a cruise can be rather decadent and does tend to spoil you, so whatever happens, healing on the ship is as good as or better as healing at home.
